OpenArc participated in one of the biggest IT exhibition in Asian region named CEATEC JAPAN 2015 from 7th to 9th October 2015.

EDB and JETRO took the leadership in organizing the Sri Lanka pavilion at the CEATEC Exhibition and guided the Delegation of six (6) Sri Lankan software companies who participated in the event.

Before joining CEATEC, JETRO held a Sri Lanka Seminar at their head office in Tokyo. The Financial Minister Mr. Ravi Karunanayake, BOI Chairman Mr. Upul Jayasuriya and about 200 Japanese companies / investors attended the Seminar.

In addition to above, Sri Lanka delegation had meetings with Japanese IT associations such as JISA (Japan Information Technology Services Industry Association) and JUAS (Japan Users Association of Information Systems). Sri Lanka delegation had a good opportunity to learn about the IT industry in Japan and during the mission, we discussed the possibility of expanding Sri Lankan IT companies’ business in Japan.

Further, some of the Japanese companies already engaged in international businesses in other countries including India and China were interested in Sri Lanka and OpenArc is presently having some discussion with those Japanese companies.

We will keep in touch with those Japanese companies, some of which have already visited us in Sri Lanka, and work with them exploring business opportunities and expanding our operations in Japan for mutual benefits.

OpenArc is pleased to announce the establishment of OpenArc solutions as “Embedded & Factory Automation”, a new division to develop and deliver embedded software solutions in local and global Embedded software industry. The new division will be spearheaded by a specialist team consisting Japanese Embedded Software Engineers, who are joining OpenArc with many years of international experience in embedded software training.

The new Embedded Software Division has been formed in Kohuwala. More that 20 of OpenArc Software Engineers, Developers and Technical Specialists have been gathered to service in this new environment under the guidance of Japanese Consultants. The development teams are currently testing on ‘RASPBERRY PI & ARDUINO’ technologies and the current developments are based on Open Source Programming Languages such as ‘Python’ and ‘C’.

With rapid growth occurring in the embedded software market driven by mobile platforms and domain specific vertical applications, this announcement underlines the OpenArc’s intent to take a leadership role as a local supplier of embedded software and systems training servicing a wide range of applications for global markets.

“NEXT- Today’s Dreams, Future Realities”

‘CETECH Japan’ is a Global Exhibition that is annually held in Japan. Presenting the achievements of advanced IT and electronics to the world, and offering society proposals for new products, services and contents are some of global objectives in this exhibition.

The exhibition has been commenced since year 2000. In this year the exhibition is themed under “Today’s Dreams, Future Reality”.

It’s a pleasure to announce that, being one of 6 participants from Sri Lanka, OpenArc Systems Management Pvt. Ltd. represents the mother land in this global event. With 25 years of excellence in local software industry, We expect this is going to be another opportunity to expand OpenArc solutions in global markets and to establish new business relationships with japan.

OpenArc is the only Sri Lankan Software Company that is having Japanese involvement. Our Japanese branch is already formed in Tokyo and the Embedded Software Division has been launched in Sri Lanka particularly aiming at Japanese market.

A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development and hardware development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects. Hackathons typically last between a day and a week. The Hackathon at OpenArc went under way successfully on the 17th and 18th of May, with all the participants stepping up and taking leadership and showing their true colors. All divisions at OpenArc came together to work as diverse teams and learn so much that they didn’t previously know.

OpenArc visited Japan as a member of Sri Lanka ICT delegation and participated in Japan IT Week from 13th to 15th May.

This was the first time for Sri Lanka to participate in this event.1431943174385_new

The delegation consisted of Sri Lanka Embassy in Japan, Sri Lanka Export Development Board and 6 Sri Lankan ICT companies.

Before the event, we visited Japanese research institutions, Tsukuba University and had a meeting with JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) and JISA (Japan Information Technology Services Industry Association) along with several other Japanese ICT companies.

At Japan IT Week, Sri Lanka had its own pavilion and OpenArc also had our own stall in the ‘Software Development Outsourcing’ section of the exhibition. In addition, we made a presentation on Sri Lanka and wide opportunities available in the IT sector in Sri Lanka, to the persons/companies who visited the event.

Many Japanese companies visited our stall and we are in communication with them to establish software development outsourcing partnerships particularly in the area of Embedded Software development.

1. University of Moratuwa selects OpenArc Campus to deliver its prestigious Bachelor’s degree in IT.

OpenArc Campus signed a historical MOU with the Moratuwa University, Faculty of IT to deliver the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree at OpenArc Campus as its sole approved education provider. This education partnership is a very good opportunity for those who missed out on obtaining a seat at a local university owing to the lack of capacity in these state institutions. This news was well accepted by the students and parents as this yer’s intake has almost doubled compared to those of the previous of previous years.OpenArc will also make available its renowned internship programme in software development to these students

2. Get yourself certified at our Pearson VUE test Cetner

Anyone who wants to obtain popular certification from Microsoft, Oracle, Linux and other vendors who provide world recognised certification can now sit for these online exams at OpenArc Pearson VUE Test Center (PVTC). OpenArc Campus an also help in scheduling these exams if the candidate comes to our facility. The exams vouchers are purchased through the credit card provided by the candidate. 2. Get trained for Project Management Professional (PMP) exam @ OpenArc

3. Equipping IT Network staff with CCNA Training and Certification exam.

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) training and certification is a recognised track for IT network maintenance staff. This training is done by trainers with international experience so that the candidates could be mentored to handle troubleshooting and maintenance of a medium sized computer network infrastructure. The certification exam is also conducted at OpenArc Pearson VUE testing lab.CCNA classes are commencing on the 28 March at the Campus computer lab. The Inaugural Session and Vision Building Program for the BIT of UoM were held on the 12th of February 2015 at BMICH from 2 P.M. – 6 P.M. It was a great event where all the participants had the opportunity to listen to many inspirational speeches given by prominent speakers.

The welcome address for the session was made by Mr. Vijith Sinhabahu – Managing Director of OpenArc Campus, followed by the Inaugural Speech ‘Beyond Horizon’ by Mr. Daya Hettiarachchi – Founder/Chairman of the OpenArc Group. Mr. D K Withanage, Dean, Faculty of IT, UoM made his speech on UoM and BIT Program. The three guest speakers, Mr. Dammika Kalapuge, Mr. Niranjan De Silva and Mr. Mohan Palliyaguru, gave their speeches on ‘Progressing’, ‘Communication’ and ‘Life Skills’ respectively.

Industrial Diploma in Software Development (IDSD) is a one year diploma course in software development offered by OpenArc. Aims of the IDSD program include: produce IT professional with right competencies, help learners with right attitude who do not qualify to go to university or any other highest studies with high entry level qualifications, provide options to be IT-Software Practitioner or IT-Management Practitioner, open an entry point for learners who dropped out from other courses and miss the certification and certify them through competency based learning method, provide innovative learning methods for different learners who learn in different ways and give equal weightage for the four components of Competency – KSAP to make behavioral change in the learner to produce IT practitioners.

The graduation ceremony for the IDSD Batch 4 students were held at BMICH on the 8th of December 2014.

DiscoverIT is the free IT workshop at OpenArc that was planned to find talented students from schools and to offer free education who in turn will serve the industry. This workshop was held in of November 2014 at the OpenArc Campus premises. During the 4 workshops that where held, a number of students were shortlisted to be absorbed to the IDSD 6 program.
